Psychological Evaluations (Testing)

An important component of the psychological services we provide is psychological evaluations, that is, the assessment and diagnosis of the presenting problems. The results of these procedures (often called "psychological testing") can be crucial in understanding the nature of the problems and developing the best recommendations for the elimination or management of those problems. Thus, evaluations can answer such questions as what the diagnosis is, what treatment to recommend, what and whom to focus on in treatment, whether medication may be needed, etc. Our evaluation expertise includes most psychological problems listed in our Areas of Concern; in particular, we specialize in testing for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) across the lifespan.

We conduct psychological evaluations (testing) from early childhood through adulthood. Our evaluations include diagnostic interviews, behavioral observations, checklists and questionnaires, information from others (family members, teachers, etc.) and cognitive, developmental, educational, neuropsychological, and personality testing. These procedures often require the careful and time-consuming administration, scoring and interpretation of test results. The final outcome is usually presented in the form of a written Psychological Evaluation Report; the contents of this report, its implications and recommendations are discussed with you in great detail in a special feedback session.

Psychological evaluation reports are frequently used to assess the need for medication, to obtain academic or employment accommodations, and in applying for various social service supports.  In many cases, you or your child will need this written Psychological Evaluation Report to document diagnosis, to obtain services, to pursue further treatment or to maintain records.
