Bel Air and Columbia Offices
We provide both in-person and virtual services
Therapy
We offer individual, family, group, and couples therapy as well as parent training in-person and online at our Bel Air and Columbia, MD offices. We use an integrative, multi-dimensional approach using strategies that are most effective for the patient. Depending on the area of concern and treatment goals, we use multiple strategies, skills, and ideas from various psychological approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), behavior analysis, exposure therapy, emotional processing, psychodynamic strategies, and interpersonal techniques.
Unique to our office when working with children and teens is the inclusion of caregivers or parents. Our professionals in the office work closely as a team to provide comprehensive care. Children and teens often have their “own” therapist while parents are scheduled to meet with someone regarding their child’s progress and needs. We work collaboratively with schools, human service agencies, physicians, and psychiatrists.
Our typical process includes an initial consultation (intake) in which we listen to the patient’s concerns and present the services that we can offer, discuss confidentiality, and our business policies. This is followed by a few sessions to further explore the patient’s concerns. In the text step, treatment planning is discussed including goals and how we get to these goals (in some cases, the initial consultation results in a referral for appropriate treatment). We regularly use feedback and evaluate progress toward therapeutic goals. These evaluations allow us to stay on course and to assess patient satisfaction as well as the therapist’s judgment about reasonable progress.
Sometimes initial treatment results in a decision to conduct a full psychological assessment for diagnostic and treatment planning purposes.
How to prepare for your virtual/teletherapy session:
At this time, we are offering virtual sessions via Zoom. In order to maximize our online time, please keep the following in mind:
Find a private room or space with good internet connectivity (a car is usually not an ideal location).
Minimize distractions so we can talk uninterrupted.
If the patient is your child or a teen, please make sure that all distractions (including cell phones, video games, etc.) are removed from the area.
Use a device with a camera and a microphone.
We will send you a Zoom link the day before your virtual session by email or text.
Sign into Zoom approximately 5 minutes before your scheduled session.
If connection is lost at some point during the session, leave Zoom and restart the login process.
